Your health is your greatest retirement asset, so invest now!

May 21, 2020

Think of it this way: We know that someone who begins saving at age 20 will have more money in retirement than someone who begins saving the same amount at age 30. So, it makes sense that someone who began prioritizing their health at age 20 will be healthier later in life than someone who began at age 30.

Locked and loaded: joy triggers

Locked and loaded: joy triggers

May 18, 2020

So, what makes you happy? What are the simple, perhaps irrational, things that bring you joy? I found out the other day that these things are called “joy triggers.” And I loved that.

Rebuilding after the 2008 "Great Recession"

April 23, 2020

For Cassandra Essick, Employee Engagement Associate at Siegfried, the chaotic events of the past few weeks have reminded her of her struggle through 2008 and her journey back to enjoyable normalcy. The similarities between these two seismic events are striking, but Cassandra promises it will get better: “Even though it’s bad right now, and it might get worse before it gets better, my experiences in 2008 and others’ experiences throughout history show it will get better.”

Crafting peace of mind

Crafting peace of mind

April 16, 2020

Creativity has never been in short supply in my family, with many making a living in art and design one way or another. For decades, my grandmother has knitted and sewn her way through holiday gifts, with my mom recently following in her footsteps. Receiving and enjoying these gifts – from scarves to socks to bathroom bags to full-size quilts – has always filled me with an appreciation for the craft and what it takes to make something by hand, start to finish.

So, when I heard one of my coworkers was a certified knitting instructor, I was more than a little intrigued.

How to overcome the

How to overcome the "forgetting curve" and improve your memory

April 9, 2020

Even now, 20 years later, I remember that Nickelodeon was on Channel 39. I convinced myself that detail was important, and I managed to retain it. However, other information I’ve learned has slipped away as if it was never there in the first place. Much of my memory, like yours, falls victim to the forgetting curve.

What's in your quarantine Amazon cart?

What's in your quarantine Amazon cart?

April 7, 2020

Amazon is always a good idea. It’s an especially good idea when we’re really not interested in leaving the house during social distancing. Yes, we’re allowed to go to Target, but do we really want to? For once in our lives, no, we don’t want to go to Target. (I know, it’s tough for me, too.)

Make the most of your time at home

March 26, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has shuttered businesses and closed schools around the country and we’re facing an uncertain period behind closed doors. For parents, balancing work and childcare while at home will be tricky, while others will simply get antsy being cooped up. It’s not an ideal situation for any of us, but here are some ideas to get you moving and focused on positivity during these unprecedented times.

Bring on the spring! Music to inspire a fresh start.

Bring on the spring! Music to inspire a fresh start.

February 27, 2020

It’s not uncommon to do a deep clean of our homes this time of year. Many of us feel the urge to spring clean — opening windows, bringing in the fresh air, and getting rid of that pile of clothes accumulating in the corner of the closet. But just as we spring clean our homes, it never hurts to spring clean our minds.

How to have difficult conversations

How to have difficult conversations

January 30, 2020

Difficult conversations, those talks we don’t really want to have, aren’t fun. From asking your parents for that one gift that was just out of reach, to breaking off a relationship, to navigating the manager/employee dynamic, tough discussions are just that — tough. But with a little preparation and connection to your empathic side, you can make difficult conversations a little easier.
