How to have difficult conversations

How to have difficult conversations

January 30, 2020

Difficult conversations, those talks we don’t really want to have, aren’t fun. From asking your parents for that one gift that was just out of reach, to breaking off a relationship, to navigating the manager/employee dynamic, tough discussions are just that — tough. But with a little preparation and connection to your empathic side, you can make difficult conversations a little easier.

Three ways to be a more empathetic leader

Three ways to be a more empathetic leader

January 23, 2020

Empathy, our ability to sense other people’s emotions and to imagine what they may be thinking or feeling, enables us to become better leaders of ourselves and others. If we can’t understand or appreciate what other people feel, how can we expect to relate to them and lead them successfully? And, if you don’t take time to understand what you’re feeling, how can you lead yourself?

The magic in showing gratitude

The magic in showing gratitude

November 27, 2019

Until a few years ago, I placed myself solidly in the “Christmas is the best holiday of the year” camp. For me, Thanksgiving was a stop on the way to Cookieville and Christmas Tree Town. But, as the promise of new toys became less interesting, I realized that Thanksgiving has its own kind of magic. It’s slow and subtle, but Thanksgiving reminds us all to stop and say thank you. To be grateful for what we have and what others give us. (And of course, to eat lots of mashed potatoes.)

Is multi-tasking the biggest productivity myth out there?

October 31, 2019

The short answer? Probably.

Multi-tasking. We’ve all heard about it and perhaps even touted it as something we’re great at it. But should we be proud of our multi-tasking abilities?

Make your heart sing by finding your

Make your heart sing by finding your "micro-motives"

October 10, 2019

I think it’s safe to say that we all want to enjoy our lives. We want to feel passionate, inspired, and we want our hearts to sing. Well, guess what? You can find out just what makes your heart sing by judging others.

Positive mindset: Your perception is reality

Positive mindset: Your perception is reality

September 19, 2019

Perception is reality. You may have heard this age-old expression. A huge portion of our lives is comprised of many interactions. In some cases, these interactions are small conversations and in others, substantial dialogues. These interactions, no matter how big or small, impact us in some way, shape, or form based on our perception.

Make learning a lifestyle with the 5-hour rule

September 12, 2019

As we move into the busy months of fall, fresh off a summer of fun, the days get shorter and schedules get more chaotic. Coming home from a long day of work and other responsibilities can mean relief. You’ve made it through another day, and now it’s time to veg out in front of the TV. A few deep breaths later and you’re more than just a few episodes into the latest Netflix Original.
