Challenges and roadblocks are, by nature, discouraging. When change or unexpected problems arise, it can be very easy to see yourself as a victim of external circumstance and allow the situation to bring you down. However, good things, and often great things, have the potential to come from tough situations – all it requires is a shift in perspective.
For example, when others see “problems,” it’s very beneficial to instead look for “opportunities.” There are silver linings to every difficult situation if you’re perceptive and thoughtful enough to find them. One of the ways you can do this is by asking yourself not “What happened to me?” but “What happened for me?” With this simple change in phrasing, you can adopt a positive, more forward-thinking outlook, inspiring you to progress past obstacles and toward success.
When feeling discouraged, it’s helpful to reflect on your current circumstance, as well as your reactions to it. Consider what the situation could teach you and if your mindset is serving your growth. By staying humble and adopting a glass-half-full mentality, you could take a step back from the challenges you face and find room for positivity and learning.
